Gov Uzodinma swears-in new Acting Chief Judge

Hon Justice Theophilus Nnamdi Nzeukwu had been sworn in as the new Acting Chief Judge of Imo State by Governor Hope Uzodinma in a ceremony that also featured the sweating-in of two new Commissioners.

Speaking at The swearing-in which came after the removal of the former Chief Judge, Hon Justice Theresa Chikeka, by the National Judicial Council (NJC) following an indictment for age falsification, Governor Uzodinma urged Judicial Officers to regard their mandate as sacred and to act with integrity, fear of God and commitment to equity.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a dependable and responsible judiciary in Imo State and made it clear that the circumstances surrounding the removal of the former Chief Judge, the governor prompted a collaborative review between the state government and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to verify the records of all Judges appointed by the state to ensure they are above reproach.

He pointed out that Justice Nzeukwu’s appointment followed a meticulous review by the JSC and further directed the Commision to accelerate the process of appointing a substantive Chief Judge for the state.

He therefore challenged the new Acting Chief Judge to ensure the restoration of dignity to the judiciary and prayed for divine guidance in his new role.

Turning to the two newly sworn-in Commissioners – Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha and Dr. (Mrs.) Chioma Egu, Governor Uzodinma encouraged them to add value to governance in Imo State and to work collaboratively for the good of the people.

In his acceptance speech, Justice Nzeukwu thanked the governor and the JSC for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him through ushering in a new era of credibility and accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the new Commissioners, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, a former Commissioner for Education, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve again and assured the governor that they would contribute meaningfully to his administration’s goals.
