Ex-International Boxer Lauds Gov Mbah Over Jail Delivery, Enjoins CJ To Embark On More Exercise

Democracy Activist and Sports Ambassador, Mazi Comr. Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, has thanked the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for invoking Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on Prerogative of Mercy to pardon convicted inmates, especially those on death row.

Mazi Okoronkwo who was speaking on Sunday during his Missionary and Charity visit to the Enugu Correctional Centre, described the action as a demonstration of quality leadership that balances justice, correction and mercy, and gives hope to the people.

Mazi Okoronkwo who preached the word of God to inmates, pointed out that he observed sober reflection and genuine repentance among inmates on death row, convicts and those awaiting trial.

He therefore called on the Chief Judge of Enugu State to embark on a jail delivery visit to the centre to decongest the facility, which is currently highly congested.

The sports Ambassador used the opportunity to call on Nigerians, especially the youths, to shun crime and all forms of criminality to avoid landing themselves into incarceration.

Mazi Okoronkwo further pledged to extend his charity and missionary outreach to Correctional Centres in Abia State, starting with Aba, in line with the injunction of Jesus Christ.

While pointing out that visiting and caring for those in prison is a true act of Christian faith and humanity, he noted that the outreach is anchored on the following:

“Matthew 25:36 – I was in prison and you came to visit me.

“Matthew 25:40 Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

“Hebrews 13:3 – Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison.

Psalm 79:11 – “Let the groaning of the prisoner come before you; by your great power, preserve those doomed to die.”
