The Team Action Committee on Sports Literacy, initiated by an Rx-International Boxer, Mazi Comr. Ikechukwu Okoronkwo (Otiokkpo) has commenced with intensive boxing training program across all 17 local government areas of Enugu State.
The initiative supported by the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, in collaboration with the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly and ALGON Enugu State, serves as a preparatory programme for the upcoming “Jabs of the Lions” South Eastern Region of Nigeria Boxing Championship, scheduled to hold soon in Enugu.
The catch-them-young move also aims to identify and nurture grassroots boxing talent within local communities across the state.
According to the organizing committee, the partnership reflects the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports development and community engagement.
“This effort is about more than competition. It is about creating opportunities for young people in Enugu to build discipline, confidence, and pathways to excellence through sports,” the committee stated.
The committee therefore encourages Residents are to follow the programme as activities roll out across communities in the state.
Speaking with Hanto Daily News, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo lauded the enthusiasm shown by the Enugu State Government and assured that the competition will yield the desired results.
