Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has reiterated the readiness of his administration to partner communities in the development of their areas.
Speaking at the 32nd annual August conference of the Obohia Obi-Ibere Development Union, Women’s Wing, held at Community primary school field Obohia Obi Ibere Ikwuano LGA, Governor Otti commended the outgoing leadership of Pastor Dame Chinyere Onuigbo for the developmental strides recorded, particularly the rehabilitation of the community hall skated to serve as a skills acquisition centre.
The Governor who was represented by the Mayor Ikwuano LGA, Dr Anthony Nwaubani, noted that the present administration in Abia has great regards for Women, hence, the prioritization of the provision of health Facilities and Empowerment of women and youths.
He described women as the pivot for the development of society and enjoined other communities to emulate the Obohia Obi-Ibere women in initiating projects through their August conferences.
In his remark, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Sir Sam Onuigbo, recalled the journey of the formation of the union for the good of the community about 21 years ago, and commended the outgoing and previous leaderships for retuning peace to the community as well as investing in the Education, health and human development sectors.
Hon Onuigbo described Obohia Obi-Ibere women as pivotal to his political life and pledged to continue his support to the women and every community development effort.
The former National Assembly member commended the Governor, Dr Otti for gracing the occasion and for the attainments made by his administration so far.
Presenting her address, the President of the union, Pastor Dame Princess Chinyere Onuigbo, thanked God for leading her Exco for the past ten years as president and eleven years as the coordinator and lauded both the men and women of the community for their support and prayers over the years.
Pastor Princess Onuigbo who enumerated various achievements recorded by his administration in various sectors, called for the extension of the same level of support to the incoming executive and assured that she will remain a dedicated active member.
“True leadership is not about holding into power forever; it is about preparing the ground for the next generation of leaders to thrive . As I pass the baton today, I do so with absolute confidence in the incoming administration.
“Our union is only as strong as our collective commitment to actualize the goals we have stepped for ourselves. The work of community development is never truly finished; it is a continuous relay that cuts across all borders and age groups,” Dame Onuigbo noted.
The ceremony which featured goodwill messages from the ODU (Men) National leadership presented by the Vice president, Chief Ikechukwu Mpama, the United States of America women wing of ODU witnessed the unveiling of the Rehabilitated hall by the Governor’s Representatives and the presentation of awards to deserving Indigenes including Rt Hon Sir Sam Onuigbo .
