A bus travelling along Uburu road with twenty five persons on Sunday somersaulted, killing Two passengers and injuring eighteen.
The bus conveying Ebonyi indigenes living in Owerri was heading to the Imo State Capital According to eye witnesses, a nine month old baby girl and an adult female, whose identities are yet to be ascertained lost their lives in the accident that occured at Uduma Junction in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The driver of the bus which was conveying Ebonyi indigenes living in Owerri was heading back to the Imo State Capital after a burial ceremony in Abakiliki and lost control and collided with another vehicle while navigating a sharp bend at high speed, leading to the somersaulting of the vehicle.
Meanwhile the injured are currently receiving expert treatment at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu.
A statement by the hospitals public relations officer,Mr Agwu Nwogo, say 23 passengers sustained serious injuries, ranging from crush hand injuries, fractures, lacerations, and severe traumatic brain injuries.
According to the statement 18 patients, including the driver, are receiving treatment at DUFUTH’s Accident and Emergency department, Surgery Ward, and Intensive Care Unit while Four patients with minor injuries were stabilized and discharged after receiving treatment.
Hanto Daily News reports that an 11-month old child who sustained severe traumatic brain injury remains in critical condition and is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where she is being supported by an artificial respirator due to failing respiration.
The hospital management however expressed sadness over the incident and assured the public that everything possible is being done to ensure the injured receive the best medical care.
