The Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, has commended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for restoring the glory of Bonny National Grammar School, describing the project as a landmark investment in education and the future of the kingdom.
Speaking at the inauguration of the comprehensively remodelled, furnished and equipped school on Friday, the monarch said the intervention represented far more than the renovation of classrooms, noting that it symbolised the restoration of a historic legacy that has shaped generations of Bonny sons and daughters.
King Pepple praised Governor Fubara for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to education, saying the reconstruction of the historic institution reflected the administration’s recognition of the critical role of human capital development.
According to the monarch, Bonny National Grammar School has remained a symbol of academic excellence, discipline and character formation, producing professionals and leaders who have distinguished themselves in various fields.
Inaugurating the project, Governor Fubara said the completion of the school had ended more than two decades without the commissioning of any major government project in Bonny.
The Governor described the project as a deliberate effort to restore the dignity of one of Rivers State’s oldest secondary schools, established in 1965, which has produced generations of accomplished professionals.
He said the presence of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and other industries in Bonny underscored the need to strengthen education to prepare young people for emerging economic opportunities.
Governor Fubara also announced scholarships for Rivers State students from the State who emerged winners in the recent Presidential Debate competition, directing the Ministry of Education to immediately commence the process for the awards.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peter Nwagor, also praised Governor Fubara for prioritising the education sector, saying the remodelled school reflects the administration’s commitment to providing safe, modern and functional learning facilities across Rivers State.
According to him, the project features six classroom blocks, modern Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories, workshops, hostel accommodation, staff quarters, a sick bay and other supporting infrastructure designed to enhance teaching and learning.
Also speaking, Amasenibo Emmanuel Green described Governor Fubara as a worthy son of Bonny who had fulfilled the aspirations of the people through the transformation of the school.
