The Abia State Government has banned operators of tricycles, popularly known as Keke from operating on some select routes from Umuahia, the capital city.
Abia Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, named the affected routes to include: Umuahia-Obowo-Owerri, and Umuahia- Ohafia-Arochukwu.
While stating that the policy is with immediate effect said the measure is aimed at ensuring sanity, order and safety on the state’s roads.
It therefore warned that any tricycle operator found violating the directive will be arrested and the tricycle impounded.
Abia Government further enjoined all Keke operators and members of the public to comply with the directive.
