Abia, Ebonyi celebrate Ex- Servicemen, Fallen Heroes

As Nigerians mark this year’s Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebrations, Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti and his Ebonyi State counterpart, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru have paid glowing tributes to members of the Armed forces who lost their lives in the course of protecting and defending the nation’s territorial integrity.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph, Ogurube Layout Umuahia, Governor Otti whose address was entitled; “Honour, Courage and Patriotism”, commended the Nigeria Armed Forces for their unwavering courage, sacrifice patriotism, and dedication to safeguarding the nation, noted that their sacrifices which transcend the battlefield, forms the backbone of the nation’s stability.

He urged Nigerians to reject corruption and all forms of abuse of public trust and ultimately, enthrone meritocracy, fairness and enduring sense of patriotism in the execution of duties as stakeholders in a national renaissance project.

The Governor disclosed that financial assistance has been provided to the spouses of the deceased, adding that the State has taken over the educational sponsorship of their children up to the University level.

Speaking at the Unity Square, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru, underscored the importance of paying respect to the country’s fallen heroes, who sacrificed their lives in protecting fellow citizens and properties.

He reiterated his determination to ensure the welfare of the Ex – Servicemen and the families of the fallen Heroes and called for patriotism among Nigerians.

The ceremonies featured inspection of the guards of honour by the Governors, laying of wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the cenotaphs, among others.
