The Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, says only community-driven efforts hinges on increased awareness and preventive measures could deal decisive blow on the growing menace of drug abuse.
Speaking with Newsmen in Umuahia, as the world commemorates the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Dr Chukwu emphasized the importance of safety, education, and vigilance in the fight against drug-related harm.
He pointed out that drug abuse remains a serious threat to the safety, development, and wellbeing of the youth and stressed the need for collective efforts to educate, prevent and support individuals at risk.
“Every life matters, and every action counts”, he emphasized.
While reeling out the dangers of drug abuse, the Due Process Boss urged stakeholders, including parents, educators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers, to work collaboratively in protecting the youth and ensuring safe and drug-free communities.
Dr Chukwu who highlighted the efforts of the Abia State Government in implementing policies that promote mental health and curb substance abuse, however made it clear though that the programmes have yielded positive results, they must be sustained to achieve long-term impact.
He therefore enjoined the youth to embrace healthy lifestyles and seek help when facing challenges, assuring that “help is available, recovery is possible, and a drug-free life is within reach.”
