Six Local government Areas of Abia State recorded about 300 volunteers that participated in the August monthly sanitation exercise organized by The Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation (OACF) held on Saturday.
The exercise was carried out simultaneously across select communities and public facilities in Arochukwu, Ikwuano, Umunneochi, Bende, Ohafia and Isuikwuato Local Government Areas.
The clean up exercise which indicates the body’s commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and healthy communities reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to its vision of “Building a Better Tomorrow” through initiatives that promote healthier, cleaner and more sustainable communities.
According to reports, in Ikwuano LGA, OACF volunteers carried out a clean-up exercise at a two-toilet facility situated at Ama Ndoro Hall in Ndoro, Oboro Ward 3 under the LGA Manager Lady Akudo Peter.
In Arochukwu LGA, the sanitation exercise which took place at Amuvi Market in Aro Ward 3, with 42 people participating was coordinated by Nwankwo Orji, the Ward Coordinator and Enyinnaya Uyor, the LGA Manager.
In Umunneochi, where volunteers and community members gathered at Nkwo Market Square, Lokpanta, a total of 35 participants took part in the exercise, coordinated by Ogu Chinaza Gloria, Ward Coordinator, with the support of Mr. David, the Zonal Coordinator.
In Bende LGA, the OACF sanitation exercise which was conducted at Amaugbagha Amaokwe Item Hall attracted 38 participants, under the supervision of Hon. Agwu Ofobuike, Ward Manager, and Mr. Evans Godswill, LGA Manager.
Further reports indicate that Ohafia LGA recorded one of the highest turnouts, with 51 participants taking part in the sanitation exercise at Obilibo Road, Amafia Okon, Okon Community, Okamu Ward.
The exercise was led by Comrade Best Nwoke, the LGA Manager, with support from Mr. Chukwuma Uguru, Ebemoha Ward Coordinator, who was present to support the activity.
Also in Isuikwuato LGA, the sanitation exercise which took place at Orie Ahaba in Imenyi Ward 1, attracting 44 participants was coordinated by Ndubuisi Anyachi, the LGA Manager.
Speaking through its continued community engagement activities, OACF emphasised that the monthly sanitation exercise goes beyond cleaning physical spaces, as it is also designed to encourage community ownership, volunteerism and collective responsibility for a cleaner and healthier environment.
The Foundation expressed appreciation to all its LGA Managers, Ward Coordinators, Zonal Coordinators, volunteers and community members who participated in the exercise and contributed to its success.
