Abia Police Command Raids Hideout, Arrests 31 Suspects


The Abia state Police command has arrested 31 suspects comprising
30 males aged between 22–46 years and 1 female suspect.

A release by the command’s spokesperson, DDP Maureen Chinaka reveals that the arrests were made leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Central Police Station, (CPS Umuahia) in collaboration with community vigilance groups that carried out coordinated raids on identified black spots in the capital city.

The places raided are located within the Mission Hill/New Road axis, in an area popularly known as “Down Below,” and another criminal hideout at Amuzukwu, known for drug bunkering that provides refuge for criminals.

Recovered during the raid were various substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs were recovered.

The release further stated that following sustained intelligence, the same areas were revisited resulting in the burning of several huts and makeshift camps used as safe havens by criminals for concealment and sale of illicit drugs were identified.

It specified that about eight (8) tents and camps constructed with baboon sticks and tarpaulin materials were destroyed and burnt to ashes to dislodge the criminal syndicates and disrupt their activities.

According to the release, all suspects have been charged to court and remanded at the correctional service.

It further explained that the action is in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa to strategic Officers of the Command and the ongoing Command’s clearance operational strategies and sustained raids on criminal hideouts across the State.

Meanwhile, 25 year old Chigozirim Elem, male, of Amasiri, Afikpo North LGA, Ebonyi State, resident in Ugwunchara, Umuahia North LGA, Abia State has also been arrested for malicious damage, vandalism and stealing of Government property.

A release discloses that Chigozirim Elem, on the 11th July 2026, unlawfully gained access into four (4) unallocated shops at Ubani Government Market and maliciously damaged and vandalized the premises and stole four (4) double doors and one (1) single iron door.

According to the release, upon sighting security operatives, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended and the stolen items successfully recovered.

It points out that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation, assuring that they will be charged to court thereafter.
