A retired senior military officer, Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was kidnapped on May 30 alongside his wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar by suspected bandits has died in the hands of his captors.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Government in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu, described the incident as tragic.
While noting that his death was a major loss not only to his family and Katsina State but also to the country, the statement, disclosed that the retired major general died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while still being held by his abductors.
“The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension,” the statement lamented.
The Katsina State government pointed out that efforts had been made by the state government and security agencies to secure his release before the incident ended in tragedy.
The state therefore conveyed the deep condolences of thecGovernor Dikko Umaru Radda to the family of the deceased, describing the development as a dark moment for the state.
He described the incident as another reminder of the need to intensify the fight against criminal elements disturbing peace and security in Katsina and other parts of the country.
He however reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those behind the abduction were brought to justice, while praying for the repose of the soul of the late retired major general.
