As the many continue to cry over the exorbitant electricity bills, Abia State government has challenged electricity generation and distribution companies operating in the State to be transparent and fair to electricity consumers and other investors in the State.
Speaking on Thursday during a public consultation on draft regulations organized by the Abia State Electricity Regulation Authority, ASERA, for consumers and other stakeholders, Abia State Commissioner for Power and Public utilities, Ikechukwu Monday reminded them that a customer is the king in an economy.

The commissioner made it clear that such customers deserve quality and transparent services, adding that resolution of customers complaints is pivotal in the new direction.
While explaining that the forum was organized to get feedback from consumers, Monday pointed out that it will help ASERA to attain the Government’s desire in the electricity sector.
He revealed that 120,000 electricity meters have been deployed to power consumers in Aba ring-fenced areas in the past six months by Aba Power and Geometric, assuring that Abia State government is out to replicate the feat in the remaining parts of the State.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority ASERA, Mr. Emeka Onyegbu noted that the agency, which took over power regulation functions from the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC, in 2025, would ensure that consumers and other investors are not cheated.
In his speech, a management staff of Aba Power Emeka Victor Ngwoke described incessant vandalism of the company’s property by criminals as a major challenge and appealed to Abia State government to establish a special court to try offenders.
