Carrick Secures New Man United Contract As Guardiola Leaves City

It’s been a mixed grill for the Manchester premiership clubsides, Manchester United and Manchester City in the last twenty four hours regarding their managerial status with the exit and retention of the managers of the clubs.

While the Richest English club (United) announce on Friday (22/5/26) their decision to retain the services of Michael Carrick for the next season after guiding the Red Devils to a third-placed finish in the Premier League, City on the other hand lost their record creating manager, Pep Guardiola who announced his exit from the club.

United in a statement wrote: “We are delighted to announce Michael Carrick will continue as our head coach, having signed a new contract”.

The 44-year-old former United player, took charge on an interim basis after the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January and led United to Champions League qualification and finishing third on the log.

Baring his mind, elated Carrick who a few weeks ago expressed concern over the inability of INEOS to take a decision over his stay said: “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.

“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”

On his own,Pep Guardiola while announcing his exit from Manchester City at the end of the season after a trophy-laden career with the club declared: “What a time we have had together!” Guardiola said in a club statement on Friday.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.

“Nothing is eternal; if it were, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City,”.

Guardiola a former Barcelona player and coach guided City to 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s only Champions League, over the past 10 seasons.

The former Bayern Munich Manager’s last premiership match will be City’s encounter with Aston Villa at the Etihad on Sunday.

Meanwhile, reports say that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked on Guardiola’s staff at City, has been widely tipped as the man to take over at the Etihad.
