Court Refuses To Uphold Senator Kingibe’s Suspension, Awards N20 million Cost Against Plaintiffs

Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has gotten a relief as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and Presided over by Justice Peter Lifu has dismissed a suit seeking to bar her from participating in all activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a judgment delivered on Friday (22/5/26), Justice Lifu, also refused to order the lawmaker to stop parading herself as a member of the ADC, following her alleged suspension for engaging in anti-party activities.

The Judge while dismissing the suit, awarded costs of N20 million against the plaintiffs and in favour of the defendant.

According to him, the substance of the case bordered on an intra-party dispute over which the court lacks the requisite jurisdiction to entertain.

Recall, the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was brought by two members of the party, Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, who said that they instituted the action on behalf of the ADC Ward Executive Committee in the FCT.

The plaintiffs had stated that Senator Kingibe was suspended on March 10 by the Wuse Ward for sundry offences that included insubordination.

Among other reliefs, they prayed the court to declare that the suspension of the defendant by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee of the ADC was valid and subsisting.
