Opah Overwhelmingly Wins Abia APC Guber primary

The search for who leads Nigeria’s Ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Gubernatorial race come 2027 came to a close on Thursday night as Chief Eric Opah emerged as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

Announcing the result following the conclusion of the party’s primary election at the APC Secretariat in Umuahia, the Returning Officer, Barthow Nyelong, said Opah polled a total of 126,977 votes to defeat his challenger, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, who secured a paltry 5,905 votes.

Nyelong noted that Opah satisfied all requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines, and therefore declared him winner and duly elected to fly the party’s flag for the 2027 guber poll.

In a statement after the exercise which took place in the 184 wards in the State, the Abia chapter of the APC commended members, aspirants, electoral officials and stakeholders for the peaceful, transparent and credible process.

The party also congratulated Chief Opah and expressed confidence that through his sagacity and influence as well as the efforts of members and Abians , the party will take over Government House, Umuahia in 2027.
