Abia Royal Fathers Embarks On Voter Registration Tour To Council Areas

To ensure the registration and full participation of the citizenry in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has embarked on sensitization and mobilisation tour of the 17 council areas in the state with visits to Ikwuano and Umuahia North LGAs.

According to reports, the team comprises the principal officers of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council and Chairmen of the Traditional Rulers Council in the 17 LGAs with the Chairman and principal officers of Traditional Rulers Council as well as Presidents General and town union executives as well as women and youth leaders and other stakeholders of the affected LGAs.

Addressing the people at both Isiala Oboro, Ikwuano LGA and Umuahia North headquarters,on Thursday , the Chairman Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Dr Linus Nto Mbah called for mass mobilisation of eligible voters from the grassroots to register and obtain their permanent voters card (PVCs) in order to participate in the forthcoming elections in Nigeria.

Eze Dr Nto Mbah noted that electoral support amounts to nothing without the voters card and urged the traditional rulers to lead the charge in mobilising their subjects to register for their PVCs.

The Monarch said that the call has become necessary especially as the 2027 general election is fast approaching, emphasising the need for Abians and residents alike to upscale their number in the INEC register.

Eze Dr Nto Mbah while highlighting the numerous achievements of Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti in office, which he said cut across all sectors, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, harped on the need to support the Governor’s reelection for him to consolidate on his good works.

The royal father described Governor Otti’s achievements as unprecedented, insisted that he has outperformed everyone who has governed Abia State since its creation in 1991.

“We have considered all that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti OFR has done in the last 35 months and, we are still wondering what his so-called opposition would be campaigning with.”

“What would they tell Abia people that Otti has not done and what would they do that would surpass what Governor Otti is doing currently?” Eze Mbah queried.

Also speaking, the 3rd Deputy Chairman Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu maintained that without PVC, political support is only verbal noting that PVC is the only power one has to validate his support.

Eze Ukaegbu reiterated that Governor has done marvellously well to earn himself an undisputable second term, adding that of those who did not do well during their tenure got another term, and queried why Gov Otti would not get his own.

In his response on behalf of traditional rulers in Ikwuano, King Larry Agwu thanked the chairman of the traditional rulers Council Eze Nto Mbah and his team for the visit, promising that their message would be taken down to the subjects.

King Agwu stressed that Governor Alex Otti remains the only elected official in Abia state to have performed creditably well and that his performance has automatically granted him another tenure.

He urged Ikwuano indigenes to obtain their PVCs and vote for Dr Alex Otti and vote out those who have failed to use their mandate well.

On his part on behalf of President general, Ohambele Ifeanyi while thanking them for the sensitisation tour, pledged to take their message to his people.

Chairman of Umuahia North Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Innocent Nwaigwe Chairman also applauded the team for the visit and thanked the governor for his numerous accomplishments in office.

He pledged on behalf of other traditional rulers in Umuahia North to mobilise their people for INEC register and called for sustained support for Gov Otti’s second term bid.

Others who spoke including Emmanuel Ibegbulam youth leader also promised to do the needful to ensure that people not only register and obtain the PVC but also vote Governor Alex Otti come 2027.
