Gun-welding Hoodlums Attack Obi, ADC Chieftains in Benin

Reports from Benin City, Capital of Edo State, South-South Nigeria say Former Anambra Governor and an intending Presidential aspirant Peter Obi of the new coalition party, ADC and other chirftains were this Monday afternoon attacked by gun-wielding hoodlums during a visit to former Governor of Edo state, John Oyegun.

A video circulating online shows the aftermath, with vehicles and the gate of the compound housing Chief Oyegun riddled with bullets.

Peter Obi who spoke in the video, said the attack took place shortly after they departed the ADC headquarters in Edo state and headed to the residence of the former National Chairman of the APC.

Obi who expressed anger over the incident made it clear that this was a danger sign of what the sponsors of the hoodlums are plotting against the 2027 elections.

Already Nigerians have started reacting to this act of intolerance emanating at this critical phase of Nigeria’s political history.

Reacting to this ugly development the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, who expressed concern over the attack on former presidential candidate, Peter Obi and its members in Benin, Edo State, disclosed that armed thugs had shot at Obi and members of the movement during the formal defection of Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Benin City.

In a terse statement signed by him, l titled:
“Breaking Red Alert in Benin, Edo State,” Tanko wrote:
“PO and the leadership of the ADC are under siege and attack in Benin, Edo State.

“At the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress, armed individuals followed us from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

“They shot at the gate and destroyed several vehicles in what appears to be a survived assassination attempt on our lives. Democracy is in danger.”

Neither the Edo State government nor the State Police Command has reacted to the development .
