Mayor Inaugurates Umunneochi Youth Association, promises more youth friendly programmes

The Mayor Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi has the Interim Executive of the Umunneochi Youth Association with Architect Peter Echem as President General.

Other Officers of the Comrade Azubuike Emmanuel – Secretary; Divine Francis – Public Relations Officer; Emeka Ibe – Treasurer, and Peter Okoli – Provost.

Addressing the Youths who turned out in their numbers during the event that took place at the council’s Headquarters, Nkwoagu, the Executive, the Mayor Umunneochi local government area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, explained that his decision to resuscitate the body which was in comatose on assumption of office in November 2024, is to ensure that Umunneochi Youths are brought together under one umbrella for easy coordination of the future leaders.

Mayor Afurobi who expressed delight that the Youths have woken up from slumber, and resolved to chart a new course, assured his administration’s willingness towards actualising their lofty dreams and objectives.

While encouraging the new leadership to reach out to other Umunneochi Youths for full integration into government developmental plans for Abia Youths, he challenged them to prioritise the welfare of Umunneochi Youths, ensure timely and meaningful engagement with the government for the development and empowerment of the Youths.

The Mayor used the occasion to appreciate Governor Alex Otti for investing in Abia Youths, particularly in the area of Information Communication Technology, revealing that about Eighty Youths from Umunneochi benefited from the last edition of the TechRise training programme on different ICT Packages which have resulted in the Youths being engaged meaningfully and becoming self reliant through owning of their own businesses.

The Umunneochi Mayor who disclosed that such trainings will be organised again this year further lauded the Governor for addressing the perennial security challenges in Umunneochi, adding Umunneochi Local Government council is currently building a new Military Operational Base at Umuaku, which is nearing completion to consolidate the gains already made in the security of lives and properties of the people.

Chief Afurobi while enumerating other achievements of both the State and the local councils to the elated youths revealed the Governor Otti is currently working on four roads are presently in different parts of Umunneochi, and called on the people of the council to continue showing solidarity to his administration which is for their own benefits.

On his attainments at the council level, the Mayor who spoke on health and Agricultural programmes, made public that four evening Modern Markets with boreholes, Solar lights, and public conveniences are currently under construction in different areas of the four zones of Umunneochi.

According to him, the Water must flow initiative that will provide water boreholes in each ward, will soon commence.

In a brief remark, , the Chief Photographer of the Governor, Mr Franklin Ugochukwu, who appreciated the Mayor Chief Sunny Afurobi, for motivating and encouraging the Umunneochi Youths to begin something new, urged them to live above board, think of developing themselves in different areas of endeavours, and announced that he will organise a training programme for five Youths each, from all the wards in the Council, in special areas of Photography, Cinematography, Drone Piloting, Photo and Video Editing.

In their speeches, the Military Commander in Charge of Lomara Military Operational Base, Major Alfred and the Divisional Police Officer, Isuochi Police Division, CSP Justine Uche, urged them to show commitment in leadership, and charged Youths to shun all activities that could negatively impact on their lives while promising assistance whenever their services are needed.

Speaking on behalf of others, the President, Umunneochi Youth Association, Architect Peter Echem Obiora, who appreciated Umunneochi Youths for their maximum confidence in them, promised to discharge their duties with fear of God.
