As the world celebrates the 2026 international day of the girl child, the Vice Chancellor, Michael Okapara University of agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Prof Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has reaffirmed the university’s responsibility to the future of the girl child.
Prof Akanwa, the first Female Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, in a release she personally endorsed to mark the day pointed out that the voice of the girl child must be heard, her rights protected and her dreams given room to grow.
The Vice Chancellor, therefore, called for collective commitment to ensure that no girl child surrendered her childhood in order to secure her future.
She solicited more investment into her education, protection of her rights, nurturing her confidence and preparing her for leadership.
“Let us recognize that the future we desire for Nigeria will be shaped by young people we are equipping today.
Nigeria cannot afford to lose creativity, intelligence and productive capacity of millions of girls to practices that belong to the past,” Prof Akanwa concluded.
