The Mayor, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has constituted and inaugurated the Umunneochi local government area Street Naming Committee with Chief Onyekachi Emeh, as Chairman.
Other Members of the Committee are: Chief Paddy Egbo, representing zone 1, Hon Uchechukwu Orji – Zone 2, Hon Broson Eze – Zone 3, Hon Chinemerem Nwankwo – Zone 4, and Mr Emmanuel Ibem, of Umunneochi Town Planning Authority, that will serve as Secretary.
Addressing the Street Naming Committee Members in his office at Nkwoagu during their inaugural meeting, Mayor Afurobi, who charged them to work assiduously towards getting a comprehensive data base of the all the streets in Umunneochi, charged the members to come up with innovations that will be acceptable by all.
The Council Boss named the Committee’s terms of reference to include: determining parameters for the street naming, duration and renewal processes as well as determining amount to be paid for such Streets.
Others are: numbering of Houses and empty plots, Identifying standard poles/plates design to be mounted in the approved streets, and to determine any other necessary legal documentation required for a successful package.
He explained that on completion of its duty, the draft documents will be presented to the Legislative House for proper legislation.
Mayor Afurobi, who asserted that a Secretariat has been designated and equipped with necessary ICT facilities for smooth take off, further pointed out that the primary reasons for the street naming in Umunneochi are for easy identification and mapping for services, adding that when Umunneochi is properly mapped and put on Google, ordering for goods and services over the internet will be possible.
The Mayor Afurobi further agued that properly named streets in Umunneochi will help in electoral services, registrations, counting as well as support security mapping and location tracking.
According to him, the membership of the Street Naming Committee will be expanded for wider coverage and quality service delivery, and solicited the input and support of all the President Generals of Town Unions in the local government.
In their separate remarks, Chief Paddy Egbo, Hon. Chinemerem Nwankwo, and Hon. Uche Orji, who commended Mayor Afurobi, for the laudable initiative, assured that they will add more strength in discharging their responsibilities, assuring that the report will be submitted within the stipulated time frame.
In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the Committee and Town Planner Umunneochi LGA, Mr Emma, who explained that the template for the street Naming exercise is well detailed and will make the work easier, and thanked him for promising logistics support.
