Umunneochi crisis: Factional Legislative Council throws weight behind Clan Heads’ move for peace

The crisis rocking the Umunneochi Legislative Council in Abia State seems to know no end as a faction of the House has berated the acclaimed Leader , Hon Obiageri Nkeiruka Chukwu for her utterances against the position of Council of Umunneochi President Generals regarding the political situation and the person of the President General Isuochi Development Association Engineer Ochiabuto Orji .

The group comprising Six Councillors in a release described the statement of Hon Chukwu which they said was deceptively formulated as the Legislative council’s position as a personal opinion of the acclaimed Leader and a personal vendetta against Engineer Orji.

While distancing the Legislative Council from Chukwu’s selfish approach, the Councillors noted that the letter of the Clan Heads reflects the genuine yearnings of Umunneochi people regarding the protracted crisis in the council area and called on the public to disregard the self serving statement credited to Obiageri Chukwu.

“Let it be known that her actions reveal only a fraction of the injustice, suppression and abuse that Councilors have endured under her.

“We recognize and appreciate the interventions of the Clan National Presidents General of Umuchieze, Nneato and Isuochi, whose letter reflects the genuine yearnings of the constituents who elected us to serve.

“Their appeal for peace and unity between the Executive and Legislative arms of Umunneochi LGA is not only timely but also deeply commendable.

“We remain committed to fostering a cooperative and development-oriented
relationship with the Mayor, whose singular focus is the advancement of
Umunneochi.

“We, therefore, call on all public office holders and institutions who may
have received the aforementioned letter to totally disregard its contents.

“It does not represent the position, voice or decision of the Umunneochi Legislative Council. It is nothing more than the product of a desperate, incompetent and directionless individual notorious for sowing seeds of discord, disunity and hatred within the Council,” the release stated.

The Councillors therefore strongly condemned in absolute terms the reckless action by Hon.Obiageri Chukwu, which not only violates the spirit and letter of the oath of office she swore to uphold but also constitutes a gross betrayal of public trust.

“Be it known that any individual or group who attempts to bring disrepute to the Umunneochi Legislative Council through such egregious acts will, when summoned, be held accountable and made to face appropriate disciplinary measures commensurate with their conduct.

“It is instructive that you, Mrs Obiageri Chukwu, pick your fights rightly
rather than engaging in fruitless altercations.

“I think it is time for you (Chukwu) to sit back and have a moment of sobber reflections, as that will enable you to count your losses due to your over ambitious character traits,” the statement pointed out.

They made it clear that they were not elected to be a stumbling block to peace and development in Umunneochi but for the good of the people and reiterated their unwavering loyalty and absolute support for the administration of Dr Alex Chioma Otti, and that of Mayor Sunny Afurobi in Umunneochi Local Government.

On her personal vendetta against the President General Isuochi Development Association and Secretary of the Clan Heads, they further observed: ” your seeking for relevance letter, you poke nosed into the internal matter of Isuochi Community Development Association, giving false accounts of how their elections were held and the position of Isuochi Traditional Rulers, who were opposed to the choice of the President General of Isuochi.

“This stance has also spoken volumes of how you can engage in
irrelevancies, which never had our endorsement.”

Recall Hon Obiageri Chukwu had last weekend in a reaction to a letter from the President General condemned the position of the Clan Heads who kicked against the protracted crisis in the council and called on the Councillors to work with the Chairman or be ready face the wrath of the masses.
