In his avowed determination to ensure total positive turnaround in all sectors of governance, the Executive Chairman Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has held discussions with all the Principals of Senior Secondary Schools in the Local Government.
Addressing the Principals in his Office at the Local Government Headquarters, Nkwoagu Isuochi, Chief Afurobi explained that he convened the interactive meeting after his visits to some secondary schools where he observed the prevalence of the decaying and dilapidated infrastructure and unkempt environment in some of the Schools, expressing confidence that the meeting would enable them reason together towards finding a better approach that will help in solving these challenges.
The Council Mayor therefore charged them to brace up for the restoration of high academic excellence and sound school system, stressing that he is interested in developing and upholding quality and standard education system Industry in Umunneochi.
called on all critical Stakeholders in Public Senior Secondary schools to brace up as the reports he got after embarking on the detailed investigation have revealed that a lot has to be done, and promising to do all within his ability to remedy the disappointing situation.
The Council Boss who meticulously listened to the Principals as they reeled out challenges bothering on acute shortage of academic and non academic staff, decay in infrastructures, Non functional Laboratory and Library facilities, non fencing of school premises, Insecurity, among others assured that no stone will be left untouched towards righting the wrongs.
He announced that as part of interim measures towards addressing the shortage of Teachers, he has applied for the deployment of NYSC members to teach Science and Igbo language.
Chief Afurobi noted with confidence that at the completion of the ongoing Teachers recruitment of about Four thousand five hundred teachers by the state government, the problem of the scarcity of Teachers would be resolved and applauded the Governor for approving the exercise.
The Council Mayor however directed the Secondary School Principals, to as a matter of urgency, form in their respective schools, Emergency School Revival Committee comprising not more than five persons, that will include the Town Unions, Old Students and Critical Stakeholders in the community, that will be monitoring and reporting their findings in schools back to his office
To this end he directed that a WhatsApp group that will comprise the Mayor and the Principals, to be opened immediately, as a means of keeping him abreast of any development in their schools.
In their vote of thanks on behalf of others, the Principal, Umuaku Senior Secondary School, Mrs Eboro Chinasa Austin, the Principal, Nneato Senior Secondary, Comrade Ihionu John, and the Principal, Eziama Lokpaukwu Model Senior Secondary, Mr Uchechukwu Okereke, who could not hide their excitement over the mature and meticulous approach the Council Boss, Chief Sunny Afurobi, adopted during the interactive meeting, pointed out that the Mayor has demonstrated capacity and convinced them that he is and reliable.
The School Principals further assured that they are ready to move at the same pace with the Chairman to ensure that his lofty ideas for a sound school system are achieved.
