Tinubu vows to take decisive measures to tackle insecurity

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that decisive measures are being taken to stabilise areas affected by rising security threats.

He also assured Nigerians that anyone undermining the nation’s territorial integrity will face the full force of the law.

In a post on his verified X handle, @OfficialABAT, on Sunday evening while meeting with top military and security chiefs at the State House, Abuja, to discuss security issues, President Tinubu also vowed that anyone undermining the nation’s territorial integrity will face the full force of the law.

“I am currently in an extended security meeting with heads of our defence and intelligence agencies, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the DSS.

“We are reviewing the latest reports and taking decisive actions to stabilise affected areas and protect our citizens. I am receiving continuous briefings and have directed our security services to move with speed, precision, and absolute resolve.

“As President, I remain fully committed to the security of all Nigerians. Those who threaten the peace and security of our nation will face the full weight of the law. Nigeria will prevail.”

Recall, earlier on Sunday, the President had through his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, directed the withdrawal of police officers currently assigned to provide security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country.

According to the statement, Henceforth, VIPs requiring security escorts will have to seek armed protection from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The directive which was part of the decision taken while the security meeting with police chiefs, military leaders, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services lasted was adopted to boost the presence of the police in nooks cranies of the Nation.

The meeting attracted the presence of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
