Rivers Police Command Arrests Car Thieves Operating With Fake Number Plates

In its intensified campaign against car theft and related crimes, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves with two vehicles now in police custody.

The command in a release endorsed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, discussed that on November 20, 2025, at about 6:00pm, operatives of the C4I Intelligence Unit arrested two suspects: Abubakar Abdulsalam – 43, and Shagari Shehu – 35, following credible intelligence.

The suspects were apprehended while in possession of two stolen vehicles: a white Toyota Hilux bearing a fake registration number GWA 453 GR, and an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a falsified number plate LSD 420 BT.

The Command revealed that an in-depth probe is ongoing to determine the suspects’ level of involvement, uncover the circumstances surrounding the theft, and identify any possible links to wider car-snatching syndicates operating within the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, while reacting commended the operatives for their swift action and lauded residents for their continued support.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all who live in and visit Rivers State.

The Police Commissioner further urged members of the public with useful information relating to similar incidents to come forward and assist ongoing investigations.
