Rivers Court stops CJ from receiving impeachment notice

As the political debacle in Rivers State continues to unfold, the impeachment moves has now shifted to the law court as a Rivers State as state High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an order restraining the Chief Judge of Rivers State from receiving or acting on any impeachment notice directed at Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The legal move follows the directive by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, on Friday to formally requested the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.

Accordingly, the court order is expected to put the process on hold, pending further legal actions and proceedings.

Hanto Daily News reports that the House which recognized that President Tinubu had already intervened in the matter went ahead with this threat, claiming that Governor Fubara can no longer be trusted for any deal.

More drama, according to Analysts, is on the way, as both sides push ahead with their stands despite appeals by various interest groups for all to sheath their swords.
