As the political drama continues to unfold in the bid to entirely destroy itself, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faction led by the suspended national secretary, Chief Sam Anyanwu has announced Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the party’s Vice Chairman (North), as the new Acting National Chairman.
In an official document signed by the PDP National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, the faction noted that the decision was reached following a resolution of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) which suspended Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum from office.
According to the letter, the appointment of Hon. Mohammed is in strict compliance with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.
The group known to be loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike made it clear that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been duly notified of the development.
It further pointed out that all necessary administrative processes have been completed to ensure official recognition of the new Acting Chairman.
With the latest development, the other faction led by the PDP serving Governors and the majority of the NWC members loyal to Damagum is expected to take another decisive step that will counter the move.
Recall, the Group led by the PDP Governors had over the weekend suspended Senator Anyanwu and his group of NWC members, an action that those affected revolted against, leading to the present pitiable mess in the prominent opposition party.

Meanwhile, latest reports say heavy security was deployed at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja as former Vice Chairman for PDP North Central, Abdulrahman Mohammed, resumed his role as the party’s acting national chairman.
According to reports, Mohammed and his supporters gathered at the FCT office of the PDP, where he addressed the crowd, vowing to take over as acting national chairman.
