Over Ten persons killed in Ebonyi community by suspected herdsmen

Over 10 persons, all men have been killed in Amegu Nkalaha a local community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State State by suspected herdsmen who were said to be on a revenge mission following the alleged killing of their cows by suspected members of the militant wing of the proscribed IPOB/ESN operating in the area.

Though no group has claimed responsibility of the dastardly act that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, Locals who spoke to Newsmen said some select houses and properties were also burnt down by the assailants, alleging further that the attack was a retaliatory act by herdsmen operating in the area.

According to a source, stakeholders had waded into the complicated security situation to prevent a retaliation, before the unfortunate attack on the villagers by the gunmen.

Meanwhile ,Security agents are yet to identify the gunmen who struck and no arrest has been made so far.

Ebonyi Police spokesman SP Joshua Ukandu, described the attack as selective, as only men were killed and specific buildings razed by the attackers.

“Our people have gone there, they saw that some houses were burnt, but, the houses were burnt in a selective manner, and 10 bodies fatally wounded were recovered, all Men.

“We have deployed our
men in that Area, we can not state for a fact who carried out this act, this group or that group we can’t, but our operatives are on their trial, we’re currently investigating to find out” SP. Ukandu stated.
