Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Offers Best Graduating Students Postgraduate Scholarship

‎Best graduating students of the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, beginning with the 2024/2025 academic session ‎are to be sponsored by the institution for Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes.

‎The Rector, Prof. Engr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, who broke the cheering news during an enlarged Management and Academic Board meeting on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the institution’s Council Chamber, said the initiative is designed to promote academic excellence and retain high-performing students within the institution.

According to him, while the polytechnic will fund the PGD programmes, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is expected to support beneficiaries at the Master’s degree level.

‎“We need to encourage our best students to stay and grow within the system. This will become an institutional policy to motivate undergraduates to strive for excellence, except where individuals choose otherwise,” he said.

‎Speaking on the ongoing developments at the Osisioma Campus, Prof Okoro commended the state government for the construction of a 1.9-kilometre dual carriage internal road network, with seven-metre-wide lanes, alongside water reticulation projects.

The Rector assured prospective students of a conducive learning environment in the coming years, noting that work at the site is progressing steadily.

He made public that following the restructuring of the School of Science and Industrial Technology (SSIT) into the School of Industrial Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences, the affected units have been directed to relocate to the Osisioma Campus after the first semester examinations in May.

‎ Prof Okoro further revealed that the institution has been selected to benefit from digital enterprise support, including the provision of 200 computer systems and the establishment of a Computer-Based Training (CBT) centre, which will also be sited at the Osisioma Campus.

‎Recall that the Governor approved and disbursed a ₦150 million grant in 2024, with ₦1 million awarded to each of 150 beneficiaries drawn from three sets of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates spanning the 2021/2022 to 2023/2024 academic sessions.
