NSDC, Ebonyi Command arrests three illegal Miners, seals-off site

A major crackdown on illegal mining in Ebonyi State by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has led to the arrest of three suspects and the site’s sealing-off.

Hanto Daily News Correspondent reports that the operation led by the State Commandant of the Corps, Francis Nnadi was carried out at a mining site located in a remote local community, Mgbo Ekka in Ezza North Local Government Area of the State where three suspects; Udoka Obaji, Nwainya Azubuike and Monday Nweke, were apprehended .

The suspects who are now in the NSCDC custody at the Command headquarters in Abakaliki, are being accused of operating an illegal mining site without licences.

Speaking with Journalists at the scene, the NSDC Commandant described the activities of the suspects as economic sabotage, threat to security and environmental hazards.

Meanwhile during the operation another set of suspects believed to be public assets vandals were nabbed, while one Oge Dandy Chinweoke was also arrested for citing a Gas plant in a densely populated business area.

Commandant Nnamdi frowned at the location of such highly inflammable Liquified Petroleum Gas, LPG business without recourse to safety measures.
