INEC fails to recognize Turaki led PDP NWC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will not recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, pending the resolution of all existing legal issues surrounding the leadership of the party.

citing existing court judgments and unresolved legal processes.

INEC in a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC which cited existing court judgments and unresolved legal processes, said it could not act on demands to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers said to have been elected at the National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.

The Electoral umpire made it clear that its position was guided by subsisting court decisions and pending litigation relating to the leadership crisis within the PDP.

INEC pointed out that as a result of the present situation, it would be improper to recognise any factional officers while the matter remains before the courts.

Recall, INEC had a few days ago held a meeting with the leaderships of the two factions of the umbrella party which has been embroiled in power tussle since 2023 after the Presidential primaries.

While the Minister of federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike is leading one faction, most PDP elected governors including those that recently defected to APC and majority of the former National working committee belonged to the other group.
