Garry Neville slams Amorim, predicts sack

As Manchester United continue to struggle in performance, former Right back and Captain, Gary Neville, has strongly criticized Coach Ruben Amorim over wrong decision-making.

Speaking on the woeful outing in their match against Brentford on Saturday, the former Defender particularly slammed the Portuguese for playing a known midfielder like Mason Mount at right-back, a decision, he said, makes the manager look stupid.

Neville who predicted that the former Sporting CP boss could be without the job soon, noted that Amorim had in the notorious loss against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup made the same mistake by also playing Mount as left wing back.

“I am very worried, there is no point in me sitting here and saying I’m not,” the Red Devils legend told NBC.

“We admire managers who are stubborn and resilient around their system, we want them to stick to their plan, but when you have Mason Mount playing at left-back you are going to look pretty stupid.

“It has happened twice now and it can’t happen. The first time I thought it was unforgivable and yesterday it happened again.

“He changes his back three and his back five every single game and the performances and the results are just unacceptable.

“I’m really, really worried. I would never go on television as I know how difficult a manager’s job can be and say a manager should be sacked, but I suspect the hierarchy at Manchester United are going to want to see a turnaround.”

The performance of Amorim, who recently said he does not care about being sacked has been dismal, as the Red Devils have not won successive games since the embattled manager joined the club in November 2024.

United that finished 15th in the league table last season are currently sitting on 14th position after 6 games, after losing three, winning two and drawing one.
