Fubara warns Assembly members against continued escalation of political crisis

In an apparent reaction to the impeachment threat from the Rivers State House of Assembly on the Governor and his Deputy, the State Government has blamed the House led by Hon. Martins Amaewhule, for blocking every effort to ensure the full execution of the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Addressing Newsmen after the assembly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, of gross misconduct, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Joseph Johnson, warned that the state faces a difficult future due to the ongoing political tensions.

The Commissioner who noted that the Assembly’s actions were inimical to implementation of the court’s verdict, recalled that the crisis began after an attempt to remove Governor Fubara from office on October 30, 2023, resulting in the continuous rise of political tension.

He reiterated that Governor Fubara remains committed to peace, pointing out that the Governor wants to focus on the people’s needs instead of political crisis.

Mr Johnson observed that despite the fact that some parts of the Court ruling were unexpected, Governor Fubara would continue working to implement the judgment, assuring that the Governor is determined to serve the people and maintain peace, no matter the difficulties.
