As Nigerians mark the 2025 Democracy day , the Senior special Assistant to Abia Governor on Due Process, Dr Oluebube Chukwu has reminded them of the need to foster a culture of accountability and transparency.
Dr Chukwu in a release to stress the importance of the day noted that freedom and responsibility must walk hand in glove in order to preserve democracy.
He made it clear every citizen has a role to play, from voting to volunteering and from questioning to whistleblowing.
According to him we must all become guardians of democracy as we honour the courage of those who fought for these rights and recommit ourselves to preserving them.
The Due Process Boss called for the strengthening of the values of honesty, fairness, and accountability today and every day, pointing out Nigerians could build a system that reflects the will and dignity of the people.
“Democracy is founded on a very simple but powerful idea: government of the people, by the people and for the people. It is more than just a system—it is the collective voice of the people which empowers citizens to shape their future, demand accountability, and participate in governance.
Democracy allows us to choose our leaders and participate in the decisions that affect our lives. It guarantees our fundamental rights and freedoms. It is not just the work of leaders—it is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that every voice matters and every person has a stake in shaping society,” Dr Chukwu observed.
