History was made in Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State, as the Governor, Dr Alex Otti, commissioned the landmark multimodal Bus Terminal, named after the first female Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Prof Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, in recognition of the courage and integrity she displayed as the INEC’s returning officer in the 2023 governorship election.

Speaking during the project commissioning at the city centre known as Isigate, the Governor noted that Professor Nnenna Oti symbolises honesty and patriotism as resisted pressure and defended the electoral process.

In his speech entitled, “Raising The Bar”, Governor Otti also outlined his administration’s urban transport vision, pointing out that the state had moved beyond road construction into building a comprehensive transport infrastructure ecosystem.

Governor Otti explained the 340 bus capacity terminal, was designed with emphasis on accessibility, comfort, safety and environmental sustainability and has 24 hours Solar power services.
He further made public that 20 electric buses were currently operating within intra-city and inter-city routes, adding that an additional 20 buses were expected in the coming weeks with another batch of 30 buses also expected before the end of the year.

In her remarks, Prof Nnenna Oti, stated that she merely carried out her responsibility and acted according to her conscience during the 2023 gubernatorial election which brought the Otti led administration to power and challenged Nigerians to uphold truth and integrity in their dealings.
In his address, the Commissioner for transport, Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu, said the commissioning of the Prof Nnenna Otti bus terminal marks a key milestone in the state’s transport reform agenda under Governor Alex Otti, describing it as a strategic intervention to restore order, safety and efficiency in urban transportation.

According to Dr Ukaegbu, the facility is designed to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, enhance passenger safety and promote organised transport operations, while also driving economic activity through job creation, improved commerce and increased internally generated revenue for the state.
