Convocation: Gov Otti To Inaugurate, Flag Off Projects At ABSU

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti says it will use the occasion of the forthcoming convocation of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) to commission various projects carried out by his administration and equally flag off construction of other projects in the University.

The Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday, at Government House Umuahia while briefing the press on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

According to the Commissioner,
“The projects to be commissioned include, three rehabilitated hostels, named hostels A, B, and C.

“As well, other projects will be flagged off during the period, and they include, the proposed Faculty of Law of the university, the proposed cafeteria of the university, the proposed 5,000 capacity male hostel, the proposed 5,000 capacity female hostel, and the proposed Faculty of Agriculture,” Prince Kanu stated.

He informed that the 30th to 32nd convocation ceremony of ABSU would take place this week between the 26th and 27th of March 2026 with Professor Bart Nnaji, the founder of Geometrics Power, presenting the Convocation Lecture, while the university would confer Honourary Degrees on some prominent Nigerians, including His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ojaja ii and 51st Ooni of Ife.

Others to be honoured are; Barr. Dr. Allen Onyema, the founder and chairman of Air Peace Airlines Ltd and the Founder and CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Dr. Stella Okoli.

Prince Kanu announced that the State Executive Council has approved the hand over of the ABSU Campus site at Osisioma to the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic as permanent site for the fast growing state-owned polytechnic.

“Let me also inform us that the Abia State University campus, at Osisioma, has been handed over to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.

“This has been long in coming. So that campus is now fully in the hands of the authorities of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic,” Prince Kanu stated.

Responding to questions, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Emeh Uche said that, students were not at the Osisioma campus of ABSU before now, noting that, there were uncompleted buildings by the TETFUND and added that TETFUND has agreed to support the projects to be completed.

She noted that the site would accommodate the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic students very well with residential buildings for the students.

“You know the other campus (present Ogbonnaya Onu poly location) is not residential, but this one is going to be residential,”

Prof. Uche Emeh Uche added that the Governor has approved the construction of a 5,000 capacity male hostel, a 5,000 capacity female hostel, and an administration bloc among others at the new campus assuring that very soon, the school would relocate to the permanent site.
