BREAKING: Three Storey Building Collapses In Lagos Trapping Many

Reports from Lagos say , a three-storey building has collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State, trapping many.

According to reports, the incident happened at about 11:40 AM and rescue operators were yet to arrive at the scene as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, latest reports say Ten people have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries following the collapse of the building which is a residential structure located at Old Ojo Road, by Alakija Bus Stop, off Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Satellite Town, in the Alakija area of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, in a statement explained that the building is occupied by multiple residents at the time of the incident.

“An excavator has been deployed to assist in the rescue of persons trapped within the collapsed structure,” the agency posted on its X handle.

“As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” the statement revealed.

According to Adeseye rescue operations “remain ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris”.

Emergency responders at the scene of the incident include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

LASTMA officers are presently at the scene managing the traffic situation and the agency advised motorists to exercise patience, comply with traffic directives, and consider alternative routes where possible.
