Just barely three days after five persons aost theier to a crash along the Isialangwa – Aba axis of the Enugu – Umuahia – Aba – Port Harcourt Expressway, another eleven persons have died in a similar incident at, Arongwa Village, opposite Arab Contractors Construction Company, just some few Kilometres from the previous one.
Confirming the ugly development, in a release endorsed by the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Sector Command, Corps Commmander Ngozi Ezeoma, the FRSC said the crash involving a Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number SSM 320 ZR colour white conveying 19 persons (8 male adults and 11 female adults traveling to Enugu occurred when the bus rammed into a HOWO commercial truck with registration number T2828LA colour yellow.
According to the Command, 10 persons (5 male adults and 5 female adults) were injured while 9 persons (4 male adults and 5 female adults) died on the spot.
Revealing further that the injured victims were taken to Ronald Hospital, Umuikaa and Living Word Hospital, Aba, the Command disclosed that the dead victims were taken to Alanwemadu and Peace Mortuary, Aba while two more comprising one male adult and one female adult died later.
The command stated that Preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the crash was excessive speed while assuring that further update on the cause(s) of the crash would be communicated as soon as FRSC Crash Investigators conclude on the investigation.
