Abia Police Command Arrests Butcher for stabbing Customer Over Pricing

The biting economic situation in the current which has seen housewives persistently price items following rising cost of commodities and the leanness of purses, turned sour in Umuahia on Saturday as a butcher stabbed a customer over pricing of meat.

According to reports, the incident took place at the popular Orie Ugba market, where the butcher stabbed his customer in the neck with a pair of scissors following a disagreement over the price of meat.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command has arrested the Saudi butcher and he is currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Maureen Chinaka, says operatives of Central Police Station visited the crime scene, adding that the victim, who was rushed to hospital, is currently responding to treatment.

“The Abia State Police Command is aware of the incident that occurred at Orieugba Market on 14/03/2026, where a meat butcher stabbed his customer in the neck with a pair of scissors following a disagreement over the price of meat,” the statement noted.

The statements assures that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
