Abia North Senate APC Primary: Philips Nto, Orji Kalu Claim victory……Nto tasks Abuja to his uphold mandate

Anxiety has gripped Supporters of Aspirants in the APC Senatorial Seat for Abia North as there are claims and counter-claims of victory by the camps.

Unlike what happened in the Abia South primaries where the results of the primary was publicly announced, there has not been any official announcement of the results of the Abia North contest, leading to both the supporters of the incumbent senator, Orji Uzor Kalu and his main challenger, Philips Nto claiming victory.

Addressing Newsmen in Umuahia , Dr Philips Nto who claimed victory called on the national leadership of APC to protect and uphold his mandate as the rightful winner of the Monday (18/5/26) primary election in Abia North Senatorial zone.

The former commissioner for finance in Abia State claimed that although the result has not been officially released, reports from the 57 wards in the zone showed that he won in 52 while Uzor Kalu won only five wards.

“Our party people voted overwhelmingly for me. I won 52 of the 57 wards in the zone because the people wanted change. My opponent had alienated himself from the party in the zone and Abia. That is why they paid him back in his own coins. I therefore appeal to our national chairman and the NWC to uphold my mandate, ” he declared.

According to him, the results have been authenticated by video evidence, while his party agents have also submitted signed copies of the result sheets.

Dr Nto raised the alarm that instead of the primary committee to release the result at the APC party secretariat in Umuahia, they have been forced to take it to Abuja and expressed fears that his opponent might compromise the result.

He, however, thanked his campaign organisation, The People First Mandate, and the youths across Abia North for their massive mobilisation that secured the overwhelming victory.

Dr Nto also commended the APC members for refusing to be compromised and for standing for justice and equity.

He assured the party that he has the capacity to win the senatorial election for APC because of his pledge to institute a new order in the zone.

According to him ,” my message of creating a new opportunity for our youths through law making and bridging the gap between the rich and the poor resonates with our people who want a positive change in representation”

However, a report obtained via a WhatsApp group also claimed that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Abia North Senatorial District, defeating his challenger, Philip Nto, by a wide margin across the five local government areas that make up the district.

According to this report which didn’t quote any source of its information, results collated from the primary election showed overwhelming support for Senator Kalu in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, with the former Abia State governor reportedly dominating in almost all the wards.

In Ohafia LGA, results from wards including Etiti, Agbo, Ameke, Agboji, Ohafor, and Okamu indicated a landslide victory for Kalu, with Philip Nto reportedly polling zero votes in several of the wards.

A similar pattern was recorded in Arochukwu LGA, where Senator Kalu secured decisive victories in wards such as Ututu, Ikwun Ihechiowa, Ohafor Abam, Arochukwu Ward 1, Arochukwu Ward 2, and other polling areas.

The APC primary results also showed strong performances for Senator Kalu in Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, further consolidating his dominance across the Abia North Senatorial District.

Party supporters who spoke after the exercise described the outcome as a reflection of Senator Kalu’s political strength, grassroots structure, and longstanding influence within the APC in Abia North.

The primary election was closely monitored by party stakeholders and supporters across the district, with many describing the outcome as a major boost for the APC ahead of the general election.

Supporters and Admirers of both Aspirants are anxiously waiting for official pronouncement on who has clinched the coveted ticket.
