Abia LG Chairman, Afurobi flags off bridge project

As a way of fulfilling the heart desires of his people, the Chairman, Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi has flagged off the construction of a bridge at Umuokpara, Achara Isuochi.

Performing the ceremony to the delight of the jubilant crowd, Chief Afurobi pointed out that he decided to embark on the project following a – save – our soul call from community leaders a few weeks after he assumed duty.

According to him, the touchy narration of what the people of the area has passed though in the past, ensured he mobilized the Works Department of the Council to come up with the bill of quantity and the consequent commencement of the project.

The Council Boss restated his determination to keep his social contract with the people and assured that his administration will ensure the judicious utilization of the local government resouces as contained in his campaign manifesto.

He further reiterated his commitment to developing rural roads to strengthen their Agricultural potentials and as well boost the economy of our people, and promised that the bridge project will be completed in record time.

He appreciated the people of Umunneochi for their implicit confidence and trust in him that led to their massive vote for him during the election and further thanked Governor Alex Otti, for giving him the opportunity to serve and for laying a solid Development legacies in different parts of the State.

The Mayor, particularly, lauded the Governor for the compulsory free education policy in both the primary and secondary schools in the state, and enjoined the people of Umunneochi to embrace the opportunity and ensure the elimination of school drop out.

In their separate remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Achara Autonomous Community, Eze Evangelist Celestine Onwuka, the President General, Achara Town Development Union, Evangelist Kingsley Okoronkwo, the Women spokesperson, Mrs Ogbajie Chinelo, and a Stakeholder, Dr Kingsley Chiedozie, on behalf of Achara people, applauded the prompt response by Chief Afurobi, in solving the age long Umuokpara Bridge challenge.

While describing him as a compassionate Leader, the community leaders further drew the government to their Rural Electrification Programme among other infrastructural needs, they pledged to remain loyal and supportive to the Mayor Umunneochi and the Governor of Abia State.

In a vote of thanks, the President General, Isuochi Community Development Association, Engr. Chief Ochi Orji, thumbed up for the local government Chairman for the enthusiasm and commitment in touching lives of his people in various communities, and urged him to remain focused.
