Abia Govt’s Groundbreaking Pact with MTN will usher in a new era of innovation, Smart governance – Oluebube Chukwu

The Senior special Assistant to Abia Governor on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu has commended Governor Alex Otti for his foresight and unwavering commitment to innovations.

Speaking on the signing of a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Abia state government and telecom giant, MTN Nigeria, Dr Chukwu noted that the agreement is set to usher in a new era of innovation, connectivity, and smart governance across the state.

He described the agreement as audacious and transformative, pointing out that the digitalization project would significantly redefine the state’s socio-economic trajectory and ensure full-scale digital transformation.l

The Due Process Boss made it clear that strategic alliances with corporate giants like MTN not only fast-track development but also attract global credibility and investment.

“This is a clear demonstration of leadership that understands the pulse of the future,” Chukwu observed.

The Senior special Assistant further pointed out that digital infrastructure is the backbone of modern economies, and praised Otti for embedding technology at the heart of governance.

Dr Chukwu theregore expressed confidence that the initiative would elevate Abia into the league of digitally advanced regions both within and beyond Nigeria.

As the Otti-led administration accelerates its push toward a digitally empowered state, expectations are high that this partnership will ignite innovation, expand access, and position Abia as a beacon of smart development across Africa.

Recall, while announcing the deal at the Government House in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, had made public that the collaboration is the fruit of months-long strategic negotiations between the Otti administration and MTN.

According to him, the initiative is central to Governor Alex Otti’s vision of a tech-enabled Abia poised for 21st-century leadership.

The MoU encompasses six critical areas: comprehensive broadband coverage, a civil service device ownership scheme, dedicated cloud services, the establishment of an Abia Digital Mall, rollout of 4G/5G infrastructure in major cities, and the creation of a digital marketplace to power e-commerce and e-governance.

The device ownership program will allow MTN to finance laptops, smartphones, and Wi-Fi routers for civil servants an intervention aimed at boosting productivity and bridging the digital divide within government institutions. He stressed that the broader digital ecosystem being built will support SMEs and foster inclusive economic growth.
