Nigeria’s super Eagles’chances of qualifying for the 2026 world cup brightened on monday following FIFA’s decision to strip South Africa of three points (from their 2–0 win over Lesotho) and award Lesotho a 3–0 win by default.
With present reality on ground Nigeria are now three points behind Benin Republic and South Africa.
The Group C table which is now reshuffled has Benin Republic now leading the pack after getting 14 points like South Africa, but having a better goal difference, while Nigeria sits close behind on 11 points, the same as Rwanda.
Lesotho is placed fifth with six points while Zimbabwe occupy the bottom position.
The situation is seen as a major blow to South Africa’s campaign though Analysts believe the Mandela country are still the favourites since the squirrels of Benin Republic are yet to play their second leg with the super Eagles who are also itching to make it to the mundial.
