Sports Ambassador, Mazi Comr. Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, has expressed confidence that Enugu State will successfully host the 2026 National Sports Festival.
Speaking after visiting, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, one of the major venues for the National Sports Festival scheduled to hold expressed satisfaction with the level of work going on at the stadium.
He noted with delight that the track and field is almost ready for use, while the swimming pool section is also receiving massive attention.
Mazi Okoronkwo described the administration of Governor Peter Mbah as a government with vision, sincerity and honesty of purpose.
“Enugu State Government is really working for the interest of Ndi Enugu and for the national interest. What I saw on ground today has given me confidence that Enugu is ready,” Mazi Okoronkwo said.
Mazi Okoronkwo, who had arrived in Enugu from Arochukwu, Abia State, where he is working on the Jab of the Lion Professional Boxing Championship scheduled to hold on 28th December, 2026 at the Civic Centre, Arochukwu, disclosed that he has been nominated as a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the National Sports Festival.
The sports Ambassador who made public that the information came from Hon. Raymond Ugwu, Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development and Security Matters, Enugu State House of Assembly informing him of his said he has accepted the nomination and pledged to work in support of the good work he has seen in Enugu State.
To this end, Mazi Okoronkwo has already addressed grassroots boxers and advised them to be ready, as it is likely that Enugu State will call athletes to camp by next week.
