As controversy continues to highten regarding the altercationns bewteen Progressives Governors Forum (APC Governors) and Minister of tge Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called for greater understanding between the two parties for the good of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Senator Orji Kalu in an interview via Facebook post on Friday, September 18, 2026, warned that if the controversy was nipped I the bud, President Tinubu and the APC would suffer ugly consequences in the 2027 polls.
While pointing out that both the minister and Progressives Governors have political strengths that could be useful in the forthcoming 2027 poll, he advised that whatever differences between them must not be allowed to overshadow the wider political interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
The senator however acknowledged the concerns being raised by some governors, particularly over Wike spomsoring candidates to challenge sitting Governors and other APC Candidates in their respective states and made it clear as a Governor, he would have not tolerated such.
“We need the Governors Forum very well, we also need Minister Wike. Some governors have a case, I can’t be a governor and you sponsor alternate candidate in my state; I will not allow that. I think Minister Wike has is own strength, the governors have their own strength and we need those strengths together because that is what will make us to win,” he noted.
Recall, the disagreement centres largely on the pronouncements and activities of Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, a cross party political platform that he has been promoting only in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The position, however, drew resistance from APC Governors through the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma who fear that the so-called rainbow coalition arrangement could weaken the party’s structures and candidates.
