Reports from Osogbo, Osun state Capital say the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, challenging the re-election of Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The legal challenge, particularly, that of the APC which many thought would no longer be following the perceived relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Adeleke was officially made public by the tribunal on Monday as it formally commenced the process by displaying the two petitions on the notice board of its secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the information displayed, the APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji with Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listed as respondents.
On their own, the PDP petition marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, filed through its candidate Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamo also has the respondents as Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The tribunal’s Secretary, Pefe Belemore, who had earlier confirmed that petitions had been filed to challenge the outcome of the August 15 governorship election disclosed that the necessary notices would be pasted on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
The formal display of the petitions marks an important step in the election dispute process and is expected to be followed by the service of court processes on the respondents.
