The Abia State Government will from Monday next week, commence the removal of attachments and shanties located along the railway axis of Old God Shed, Umuahia, to enable the commencement of the road that will link Bende Road Tower to Bank Road, Umuahia.

The General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority UCDA Mr Kingsley Agomoh, disclosed this said that the occupants of the shanties and attachments have been duly served, by the Nigerian Railway Corporation and UCDA.

According to him, the grace period given to them to vacate the area has already expired and made it clear that the task is expected to be carried out without hitches.
Speaking with Newsmen, some of the occupants of the shanties and attachments, including Kelechi Ohia, Promise Ozu, and Ajichieme, confirmed that they were duly served by the agency to dismantle their property and however appealed for more time.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Government has issued an immediate vacation order to occupants of a one-storey building under threat of collapse at Umuizu Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA.
Handing down the directive when he inspected the building, the General Manager UCDA revealed that the building, which is under the right-of-way of a stream, has no approval from the agency.
He further pointed out that the building which was erected without necessary approval supervision, has a structural deficiency and will soon be demolished to avoid loss of lives.
