It was yet another harvest of another political stalwart by the Labour Party in Umunneochi Local Government Area has received a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections, as a former State House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of the NDC, Engr. Nzubechi Ndufoechi, popularly known as Aguzuby, decamped to the Party.
Receiving Engr. Ndufoechi, accompanied by his ward coordinators, leaders, relatives and supporters, at the Local Government Headquarters, the Mayor, Umunneochi Local Government Area, Mazi Sunny Afurobi, expressed delight at the growing strength of the party at the grassroots.
While restating that the party remains open and ready to receive more decampees, Mazi Afurobi commended the new entrant for following due process as advised by joining from his Umuaku Ward.
Commenting on the team accompanying Engr Ndufoechi, the Mayor described the development as an indication of the strong family and political support behind the decision.
He noted that although Umuaku Ward already has several prominent and committed Labour Party faithful, the entrance of Engr. Ndufoechi and his supporters would further strengthen the party and enhance its capacity to achieve greater political success.
Mayor Afurobi announced that he would organise a more colourful and elaborate reception for the new entrant, which would bring together the Party Chairman and other critical stakeholders from within and outside Umunneochi.
He assured Engr. Ndufoechi that he would facilitate another meeting involving other critical stakeholders of the Labour Party to enable him to integrate quickly into the party and join other members in working for the victory of Governor Otti and other Labour Party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The Mayor used the occasion to appreciate the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, whom he described as the pride of Abia State and a leader whose sterling leadership qualities have placed the state on the global map of developing economies.
According to him, Governor Otti has changed the dynamics of leadership in Abia State and had given Abians reasons to proudly identify with the state as “God’s Own State.”
He further pointed out that Governor Otti had also brought the same capacity, tenacity, decency, and sanity into the Labour Party, which, according to him, contributed to the peaceful and rancour-free party primaries previously conducted in the state.
Mazi Afurobi made it clear that his administration was following the footsteps of Governor Otti by delivering democratic dividends to the people of Umunneochi Local Government Area, pointing out the various landmark projects located across different parts of the local government.
The Mayor also announced that, as part of his administration’s plans to give Umunneochi Local Government Area a further facelift, arrangements had been perfected for the installation of a Garri Processing Plant in Obinolu Ngodo Community that would facilitate the processing of cassava tubers to be harvested from the 15-hectare cassava farm at Umuada, Ngodo.
He further added that the over ₦300 million Pig Farm Project currently under construction at Amuda Isuochi was nearing completion, stressing that his administration would raise more pig farmers and produce pig feed through its feed mill, among other agricultural and developmental projects.
Speaking earlier, Engr. Nzubechi Ndufoechi, said that he and his supporters had come to formally inform the Mayor that they had joined the Labour Party from Umuaku Ward, in line with the guidance given to them.
Engr. Ndufoechi explained that before taking the decision, he had carefully observed the political processes and developments in Abia State and had become convinced by what he had seen.
He said they had gathered sufficient evidence to show that Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti had changed the old narrative of underdevelopment in the state and ushered in a new era of unity, progress, prosperity, and development across various sectors of the economy.
He also commended the developmental initiatives of Mayor Sunny Afurobi, which he said were visible across various communities in Umunneochi and assured that they would join the Labour Party and work for its victory in the 2027 general elections.
Also speaking, the Father of the decampee, Deacon Ndufoechi Chibuike, as well as the ward coordinators and leaders, said they had no option but to follow their political leader into the Labour Party and described Engr. Ndufoechi as a humble and compassionate leader whose entrance into the Labour Party, alongside his supporters, would contribute significantly to the party’s electoral fortunes.
In a vote of thanks, the Labour Party Chairman of Umuaku Ward, Mr. Ike Kelechi, thanked the Mayor for the warm reception, fatherly guidance, support, and advice extended to the delegation.
