The new Commissioner of Pice, Abia state Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi says that intelligence-led policing will remain the cornerstone of the Command’s operational strategy.
Addressing Officers of the command including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments and Commanders Violent Crime Response Unit ( VCRU), CP Afolabi stressed the importance of sustained training and retraining of officers in key areas, such as intelligence gathering, investigations, crime mapping, crime prevention, understanding the crime geography of the state, human rights, electoral laws, and emotional intelligence.
He assured his commitment to continuous professional development and ensuring that officers are adequately mentored and equipped to carry out their responsibilities effectively and professionally.
The Police Commissioner reminded them of the critical role of community partnership in effective policing and urged officers to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders, community members, and other security agencies within their jurisdictions.
He pointed out that such synergy is vital to enhancing security and building public trust and confidence.
CP Afolabi noted that though officers are expected to be professional and civil in their conduct, they must remain firm, disciplined, and courageous in the lawful execution of their duties.
The CP further warned them to shun acts of extortion, corruption, and any conduct capable of bringing disrepute to the Command, stressing that such will not be tolerated.
“I have come to Abia State with a singular focus: to serve with integrity, enforce the law without fear or favour, and safeguard the lives and property of every resident. My mission is to effectively drive, implement, and practicalise the ongoing strategic re-engineering agenda of the Inspector-General of Police.
The IGP’s vision remains our operational roadmap, and every action taken under my command will align with his strategic direction for a modern, responsive, and accountable Police Force,” CP Afolabi pointed out.
He used the forum to direct strict enforcement of traffic laws across the state, with traffic officers taking the lead in coordination with relevant agencies to ensure compliance and the free flow of traffic.
The CP commended the Governor of Abia State for his commendable efforts in advancing development and security in the state, and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained collaboration with sister security agencies.
