Chief Executive Officer of Ikeuj Enterprise Limited and Ikeuj Boxing Promotions, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, has continued his humanitarian outreach with visits to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Enugu, and the Holy Ghost Motherless Babies Home, Enugu.
The Ex-International Boxer donated food items to the inmates and presented clothing and other relief materials to the babies and caregivers at Holy Ghost Motherless Babies Home.
Speaking during the visits, Mazi Okoronkwo stressed the importance of justice, mercy, and rehabilitation, in keeping with the values of sportsmanship and reconciliation.
He therefore called on the Federal Government and various state governments to make their Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, very functional as provided in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The Ex-International Boxer, Particularly, appealed for the release of federal inmates, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others serving various sentences.
He further urged the Chief Judges of state courts to exercise their powers under Section 1(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and relevant state laws to visit correctional centers to enable them to consider bail and discharge for awaiting-trial inmates whose cases have suffered undue delay.
According to him, these steps will help decongest custodial centers, uphold human rights, and restore hope to many Nigerians awaiting justice.
Hanto Daily News reports that Mazi Okoronkwo who was accompanied by the Resident Pastor of Christ Ascension and Redeemed Church ministered the Word of God and shared messages of hope, prophecy, and encouragement with inmates, including those on death row.
